GOP County Supes: Dem Didn’t Invite Us to State of County Speech

By Lisa Halverstadt | Voice of San Diego

Democratic County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer laid out her proposal to fight the Trump administration during the annual State of the County speech Wednesday night. The county’s two Republican supervisors say she didn’t invite them to the show.

But Lawson-Remer’s office says she did invite Supervisors Joel Anderson and Jim Desmond. Their offices failed to signal interest in attending as Lawson-Remer considered how to structure the event to comply with the state’s open meetings law.

The differing stories amount to the latest kerfuffle for the politically divided county Board of Supervisors.

The county has long hosted an annual State of the County address given by the chair of the Board of Supervisors. With the county board politically split 2-2, the board has failed to elect a chair, making Lawson-Remer the acting chair and Anderson the acting vice chair.

Nuclear Scientist Says CO2 Is Not Causing Rising Global Temperatures

By Jeremia Kimelman | The Epoch Times

Nuclear scientist Digby Macdonald said that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not the primary driver of global temperature changes.

In a recent episode of EpochTV’s Bay Area Innovators program, Macdonald said that temperature rises first, followed by CO2.

He pointed to the example of a carbonated drink and how a rise in temperature will cause the drink to release its CO2 faster, causing it to go flat.

“That’s the very reason why you put your beer in a refrigerator,” he said. “If you want the fizzy drink to be tangy … you put it in the refrigerator so the CO2 remains in the drink.”

OPINION: I Met with EPA Administrator Zeldin Today: Mexico Must Take Action Or Else

By John Franklin – Mayor, City of Vista

Thanks to Congressman Darrell Issa, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin came to San Diego to see firsthand the crisis we’ve been living through for years—millions of gallons of raw sewage pouring into the Tijuana River from Mexico.

I joined Congressman Issa, Supervisor Jim Desmond and Mayor John McCann for a roundtable discussion with Administrator Zeldin. Unlike past officials, he came ready to listen—and act.

I made it clear:

Mexico must immediately begin repairs to its sewage treatment facilities. If they don’t, we must consider cutting off their access to fresh water—one gallon of potable water for every gallon of sewage they send north. No more delays. No more excuses. It’s time for action and accountablity.

Here’s what the lack of urgency has cost us:

Over 100 billion gallons of toxic sewage dumped into the Pacific

Navy SEALs poisoned during training in contaminated waters

1,000+ consecutive days of beach closures in places like Imperial Beach

$ Millions in damage to our economy and coastal communities

Enough is enough.

Administrator Zeldin promised that this administration will no longer accept the status quo. That’s a welcome change—and for the first time in years, there’s real hope this crisis can be solved.

But we need to keep up the pressure.

We must demand accountability, protect our coast, and stop this environmental disaster once and for all.
