District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis wins re-election

San Diego County Primary Election

Dumanis Wins Re-Election

After running unopposed in the past two elections, San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has staved off a bid by two opponents to force her into a November runoff election. Dumanis had 55 percent of the vote. Veteran attorney and former federal prosecutor Bob Brewer had about 35 percent, with former county prosecutor Terri Wyatt with 10 percent.

Zapf A Winner; Cate and Kim in Runoff

San Diego City Councilwoman Lori Zapf had to shift to District 2, but won  re-election to the City Council anyway. But taxpayer advocate Chris Cate apparently will square off in a November runoff against educator Carol Kim in District 6. Zapf, who needed to shift from District 6 to District 2 because of redistricting, had nearly 54 percent of the vote. Ex-federal prosecutor Sara Boot was second with nearly 38 percent. Two other candidates collected about 9 percent between them.

Scott Peters and Carl DeMaio Head for November

Rep. Scott Peters and Carl DeMaio gained the top spots in the 52nd Congressional District primary election, a race targeted by the national Democratic and Republican parties and one certain to see massive spending and intense campaigning in the fall. The results showed Peters wil 42 percent and DeMaio with 36 percent with most of the votes tallied.

County Supervisor Bill Horn Pads Lead

Supervisor Bill Horn was in a dogfight today in his effort to continue a two-decade run on the county of Board of Supervisors, leading Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood by 1,200 votes with nearly 53,000 cast. The two Republicans in the nonpartisan race are vying to represent the coastline from Camp Pendleton to Carlsbad, along with Oceanside, Vista and San Marcos, and several unincorporated communities. With 82.1 percent of precincts counted, Horn led Wood 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent. Earlier, he led by only 500 votes. Horn, 77, a former Marine officer and Vietnam veteran, is seeking his sixth term. The avocado and citrus grower was elected to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 1994.

Ron Roberts was unopposed for re-election to represent the majority of the city of San Diego on the board.

Barrio Logan Plan Update Defeated

In a triumph for San Diego’s shipyards, voters rejected a 20-year community plan for Barrio Logan that the business community had aggressively fought.

Propositions B and C, as they appeared on the ballot, would have paved the way for the update of a land use blueprint that had largely been unchanged since 1978.
