Petco expands international

footprint with new Tijuana store

Petco and Petco México held a grand opening of the first Petco store in Tijuana on Friday. The inauguration is part of Petco’s growing joint venture with Grupo Gigante in Mexico and a direct result of the company’s strongest cross-border effort to date.

Expanding Petco’s international footprint to Tijuana is a significant milestone for the brand and region, given it is the sister city of San Diego, where the Petco brand was first born in 1965.

Petco Tijuana brings the total number of Petco stores in Mexico to 85, with further growth plans on the immediate horizon. Petco Mexicali – the second Petco store in Baja California – will open on Nov. 8, followed by additional store openings across Mexico, expanding to 90 locations by the end of 2019. Growth is expected to maintain momentum throughout 2020 and beyond.

Similar to Petco stores across Mexico, Petco Tijuana features a nutrition-first focus and in-store services like veterinary care, grooming, positive dog training and animal adoption stations. Much of Petco Tijuana’s more than 7,000 products are ordered directly from Petco’s U.S. catalog, but pet parents in Mexico can also choose from a number of high-quality wet and dry dog foods that are developed in-country by Mexican vendors.

One of the interactive bus activities included Look Through a Different Lens where participants, through gamification and digital viewfinder, watched an interaction between coworkers setting up a work-related event and then identified moments when unconscious biases were demonstrated.

Fleet Week San Diego returns today

with ship tours, concerts and sporting events

Times of San Diego

Fleet Week San Diego, the city’s annual salute to the world’s largest concentration of naval forces, returns today through Nov. 12 with ship tours, sporting tournaments, concerts and Memorial Day events.

“San Diego is definitely a military town,” said Gordon Rutherford, Fleet Week San Diego president for 2019. “But San Diegans and visitors to our city really don’t often get a chance to meet the people and see the technology they use to defend the United States and our way of life. We’re proud of the work our military men and women perform, and Fleet Week is a great way to honor their service!”

Last year, more than 20,000 people attended Fleet Week festivities, touring the USS Harpers Ferry and Coast Guard Cutter Mellon and learning about Marine Corps combat gear.

Activities begin today with a five-day softball tournament hosted by the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation. The tournament pits teams from local military units and first-responder agencies against one another in friendly competition to highlight the bond that exists between the men and women who serve San Diego and all of America.
