‘Battle on the Midway’ Set for Nov. 9
The inaugural “Battle on the Midway” basketball game pitting the San Diego State Aztecs against Syracuse University will be staged Friday, Nov. 9, aboard the USS Midway in San Diego Harbor. The game is set for a 5 p.m. and will be televised nationally by FOX Sports Net. The Fox broadcast team will be broadcaster Dick Enberg, five-time NBA champion Steve Kerr, Erin Andrews and Mike Pomeranz. San Diego State comes off a 26-8 season and is the reigning Mountain West Conference champions. Syracuse University, champions of the Big East regular season, finished its season at 34-3 and reached the Elite 8 in last season’s NCAA tournament. Family Trust Purchases 19 Units at Palm Terrace Condominiums
The Karnazes Family Trust has purchased 19 units at Palm Terrace Condominiums in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego for $2.3 million. Located at 4654-4670 33rd St., Palm Terrace Condominiums was built in 1956 as a 28-unit apartment complex and was converted to condominiums in 2007. The other nine units were previously sold to individual buyers. CBRE San Diego represented the seller, Owens Financial Group Inc. Troop Real Estate represented the Karnazes Family Trust. The 19-unit bulk sale has a unit mix of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom units totaling 12,080 rentable square feet. The existing DRE Final Subdivison Public Report and Final Map allow the units to be sold individually.
Procopio Law Firm Adds Six Attorneys in San Diego
Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch announced the addition of six attorneys to its San Diego and Del Mar Heights offices. Raymond K. Chan, Dave Deonarine and Cecilia O’Connell Miller have joined the firm as senior counsel and Jamie L. Altman, Jamie D. Quient and Victor Sai have joined as associates. The firm now has more than 130 attorneys in three offices in San Diego County.
Jamie Altman — Altman’s practice includes representation of plaintiffs and defendances in commercial and civil litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Altman served as a law clerk to Judge William C. Hillman in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts. She received her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Raymond Chan — Chan is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
Dave Deonarine — Deonarine practice focuses on complex intellectual property litigation. He previously was with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. He received his J.D. from the University of Windsor in Canada.
Cecilia Miller — focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and pre-litigation counseling. She previously was counsel at Latham & Watkins LLP. Miller received her J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
Jamie Quient — Quient will serve as medical staff counsel for numerous hospitals and health systems. She previously served as judicial clerk to Judge Michal M. Anello in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. She received her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Victor Sai — Sai’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. He has litigated complex intellectual property cases before the International Trade Commission and US District Courts. Sai received his J.D. from the University of La Verne.
Scripps Neurologist Appointed to Brain Injury Association
Scripps neurologist Dr. Michael Lobatz has been appointed to a four-year term as a member of the board of directors for the Brain Injury Association of California. As medical director of the Rehabilitation Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Lobatz has extensive experience in the treatment of a variety of neurological disorders. The Brain Injury Association of California is a nonprofit membership organization with the goal of increasing brain injury awareness in California.
