Panel to Focus on San Diego’s
Redevelopment Efforts

The city of San Diego created Civic San Diego in response to the state’s demolishing of redevelopment agencies. How the new organization intends to continue the city’s revitalization efforts is the subject of a panel program Sept. 18 sponsored by the Urban Land Institute. It will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the University Club at 750 B St., Suite 3400, in Downtown. Panelists will be Jeff Graham, vice president of redevelopment for Civic San Diego; David Graham, deputy director of policy for the mayor’s office; and Brad Segal, president of Progressive Urban Management Associates. City Attorney Endorses Carl DeMaio in Mayor’s Race

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith endorsed Councilman Carl DeMaio for mayor Thursday, calling him someone who can take the city of San Diego “to the next step.” DeMaio, who’s facing  Rep. Bob Filner (D-San Diego) in a November runoff, has “incredible energy and thoughtfulness,” Goldsmith told reporters. “He’s willing to roll up his sleeves and focus on the day-to-day management of the city,” said Goldsmith, who did not offer any criticisms of Filner. Goldsmith gave strong praise to outgoing Mayor Jerry Sanders, who “brought the city from its darkest moment to an opportunity to shine,” and said DeMaio will take it to the next step. — Reported by City News Service.

San Diego’s DataQuick to Acquire ATI Title Companies

DataQuick has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the ATI Title Companies, dba Rels Title, one of the country’s largest title and settlement entities. Rels Title is currently a subsidiary of Rels Title Services LLC. Rels Title offers nationwide escrow, title examinations, commitment and closing services, among others. As part of the acquisition, the Rels Title name will be used for a period of time. The current Rels Title management team, headed by Leslie Foster, will continue to lead operations, which will remain headquartered in Minnetonka, Minn.

Caruso Affiliated to Purchase Carlsbad
Property for Future Development

Caruso Affiliated has signed an agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric to purchase a 48-acre parcel of land along Cannon Road in Carlsbad that will be used for a future development project. Caruso said that it will work with Carlsbad Strawberry Company Inc., which currently farms on the property, to preserve strawberry and agricultural use along Cannon Road as part of any plan. The company also said it will also ensure that the neighboring parcel of land that is protected open space will remain as open space.

Jones Lang LaSalle Hires VP of Retail Brokerage

Jones Lang LaSalle has hired 10-year retail industry veteran Bryan Cunningham as vice president of retail brokerage. Based in the San Diego office, Cunningham will manage development and execution of retail leasing strategies. Cunningham’s expertise includes landlord leasing and tenant representation. Since January 2010, Cunningham has completed more than 150 transactions, with a combined value of $100 million. CoStar named him a Power Broker in 2010 and 2011. Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle, Cunningham worked as a director with Cushman & Wakefield.
