Filner Leads DeMaio by Six Points in Mayoral Poll
Rep. Bob Filner (D-San Diego), has opened a six-point lead overCouncilman Carl DeMaio in the race for San Diego mayor, according to a new poll released Friday. In the poll conducted by SurveyUSA for 10News, Filner won the support of 47 percent while DeMaio had 41 percent. That’s a gain of one point for Filner and a loss of two points for DeMaio since the last canvass of voter sentiment six weeks ago. Over that time, Filner gained 4 percent among men and 7 percent among seniors. He was ahead 46-43 percent among male voters and 48 to 38 percent among females. “Of course, the only poll that matters is on Election Day, but we are encouraged by these numbers,” Filner said. “Clearly, our message is resonating with voters in San Diego who want a mayor focused on their interests — not special interests.” DeMaio has gained 8 points among Latinos, according to the poll of 753 adults who were judged to be likely voters. Filner still led among Latinos, 45-43 percent.
“As I have always said, voters will decide who their next mayor will be based on the candidates record of results and vision for San Diego’s future,” DeMaio said. “I trust that my record of accomplishing meaningful reforms and my vision of a prosperous regional economy, improved city services, and the full restoration of our city’s infrastructure, will resonate with San Diegans.” The candidates have scheduled more than a dozen debates between now and the Nov. 6 general election. — Reported by City News Service
