Mayoral Debate Tonight

The San Diego County Taxpayers Association will sponsor a mayoral debate tonight at the U.S. Grant Hotel Downtown featuring Councilman Carl DeMaio, Congressman Bob Filner, Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher and District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis. It will be held at 5 p.m. at the Downtown hotel at 326 Broadway.

San Diego Downtown News is Sold

San Diego Community News Network, which publishes the twice-monthly Uptown News and Gay San Diego newspapers, has bought the monthly San Diego Downtown News, which has a free circulation of 21,000, San Diego Gay & Lesbian News reports. The paper’s former owner, San Diego Community Newspaper Group, continues to publish papers in several beach communities.

Construction Starts on Brookfield’s Sago Community

Construction has begun at Brookfield Homes’ newest community, Sago at The Foothills in Carlsbad. The builder will debut Sago’s three model homes in March 2012. Sago will offer two-story homes ranging from 1,750 to 2,050 square feet with three to four bedrooms, 2.5 baths and priced from the mid $400,000’s. Sago has four floor plans, all of which include courtyards for outdoor living space. Homeowners will have access to The Foothills’ Swim Club, equipped with a pool, paddle tennis courts, fireplace and barbecue.

Tony Gwynn Meet & Greet

Whitaker Innovations will sponsor a VIP Meet and Greet event on Feb. 16 for Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. It will be held at the Mission Valley Marriott. A reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. During the dinner, Gwynn will share stories about his baseball career and how he hopes his bout with cancer will help change the culture of baseball and its encouragement of tobacco use. Later, Gwynn will hold an autograph signing session of memorabilia sold at the event. Tickets are $300 in advance or $350 at the door. PERSONNEL MOVES

Trigild Promotes Four Executive Staff Members

San Diego-based Trigild has promoted four members of its executive staff — Jason Hull, Brian Morelan, Josh Hall and Jules Sherwood. Hull was promoted from director of commercial real estate to senior managing director. Morelan, previously Trigild’s director of commercial property management, was named managing director of commercial real estate. Hall, previously a director of real estate projects, now spearheads the  company’s eastern operations as the regional director of real estate east. Sherwood, previously a senior project manager, is overseeing the western  region  as the firm’s new regional director of real estate west.

Jered Barger Joins Union Bank

Jered Barger has joined Union Bank’s retail consumer lending section as the area sales manager based in San Diego. In the newly created position, Barger is responsible for the growth of residential lending throughout San Diego County, and managing the mortgage consultants who support the bank’s branches in the area.  Barger has 12 years of experience in the mortgage industry.  Before joining Union Bank, he worked as a private mortgage banker and sales supervisor for Wells Fargo.  Prior to that, he served as the Southern California wholesale division manager for World Savings and Loan.

Trevor Callan Named Chairman of Equinox Center Board

Trevor Callan, co-founder of wealth management firm Callan Capital, has been appointed chairman of the board of the nonprofit research and policy organization Equinox Center. The board also added two new members, Robert Bingham and Charles Butler. Callan holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from San Diego State University and a Certified Investment Manger Analyst designation following coursework and examination at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dwayne Taylor Takes Post at Broadcast Co. of the Americas

Dwayne Taylor has been named head of the marketing, promotions and digital media departments of Broadcast Company of the Americas for XX 1090, The Walrus 105.7 and 1700 ESPN radio. Taylor has more than 20 years of experience in radio marketing and promotions. Taylor began his career with Jefferson Pilot Communications in San Diego at KSON AM/FM.

Scott Dolbee Appointed Executive Chef in Del Mar

L’Auberge Del Mar’s KITCHEN 1540 has named Scott Thomas Dolbee as executive chef beginning Jan. 23. Dolbee will oversee all of the food and beverage operations at the 120-room hotel in Del Mar, including KITCHEN 1540. Dolbee joins L’Auberge from Four Seasons Resort Whistler, where he had been executive chef since 2008. A Los Angeles native, Dolbee started his culinary career at age 18 as a chef tournant for the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel in Laguna Beach. His progression included positions in kitchens around the country from the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles and Manele Bay Hotel in Hawaii, to Wauwinet Inn in Nantucket and The Sagamore Resort in New York.
