METRO Movers to Watch

SD Metro is soliciting nominations for our annual Metro Movers to Watch awards, which will be published in January. Send your nominations to Rebeca Page at rebecapage@sandiegometro.com. Nominate a man or woman you believe will make outstanding contributions in San Diego County during the new year. Nominations will close on Dec. 22.

Mayoral Candidates Job Growth Forum

On Dec. 6, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. has invited San Diego mayoral candidates to present their job growth plans to San Diego business leaders. This non-debate forum is in partnership with CONNECT, NAIOP, and San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, from 7:30-9:30 am at The University Club.  Table of 10 is $400; tickets are $45 per person. Candidates presenting are Councilman Carl DeMaio, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher. Congressman Bob Filner was invited, but unable to participate. SCS Engineers Assists with Brewery Site Redevelopment

Environmental consulting firm SCS Engineers has been contracted by AMCAL Mission Funding LP to assist with the redevelopment of the former Mission Brewery site into an affordable housing residential complex.

 SCS provided environmental consulting and construction services including mass grading and pad certifications. The services also included completing various environmental studies and a soil management and health and safety plan. The 

Mission Apartments is to provide 85 units of new affordable workforce housing. SCS assisted AMCAL’s entry into the county of San Diego’s Voluntary Assistance Program (VAP). The VAP provides staff consultation, project oversight and technical or environmental report evaluation on projects. The SCS team is led by Daniel E. Johnson, managing principal, and Christopher Spengler, project manager. Assisting are Sean Roy, Tracy Thompson and Robert Gutzler.

Qualcomm Forms New Subsidiary

Qualcomm Inc. has announced the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Life Inc., that will operate the business formerly known as Qualcomm Wireless Health. It also announced the establishment of a $100 million Qualcomm Life Fund, an investment allocation that will be managed by Qualcomm Ventures, the company’s investment group. Qualcomm Life’s first offerings, the 2net Platform and Hub for use in connection with wireless medical devices, are now available in the U.S. and are designed  to interconnect wireless medical devices via cloud-based solutions so that biometric information is easily accessible by device users, their health care providers and caregivers. The platform and hub are intended to transfer, store, convert and display medical device data.

“Qualcomm Life was founded, in part, to assist medical device manufacturers who approached Qualcomm for help when their own wireless connectivity attempts became untenable due to technology selection errors, unscalable deployment models and prohibitively high operational support costs,” said Rick Valencia, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Life.
