Council Approves Funds for Balboa Park Centennial

Balboa Park Celebration Inc., the nonprofit set up for the park’s centennial celebration in 1915, received City Council approval Tuesday to plan year-long festivities and authorized $450,000 to get it started. Other funds would come from donations, tourism dollars and foundations.

Cubic Applications Gets $10.8 Million Army Contracts

Cubic Applications Inc., a subsidiary of Cubic Corp., has been awarded four contracts worth more than $10.8 million for training and support services at the Army’s Combined Arms Center (CAC) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The CAC provides Army-wide leadership and supervision for leader development and professional military and civilian education. It includes a 10-month course required for all Army majors, many of whom complete it remotely through the Army School System.

Union Bank’s Private Bank to Open in La Jolla

Union Bank has moved its Private Bank from the Golden Triangle area to the second floor above the existing Union Bank La Jolla branch at 7807 Girard Ave., Suite 200. The new Private Bank office, which is led by Kay Matherly, senior vice president and regional director, will open next Monday. The office will be staffed by 15 employees. The Private Bank provides wealth management services, including wealth planning, investments, risk management, fiduciary services and banking to wealthy individuals and families as well as professional service firms such as law firms, medical practices and accounting firms. The Private Bank will continue to operate its Downtown San Diego office led by Senior Vice President Luanne Bas.

Flying Elephant Pub & Grill Debuts in Carlsbad

Dave and Molly Anson purchased Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub last year, renamed it the Flying Elephant Pub & Grill, remodeled it  and created new food and beverage specialties. The Carlsbad restaurant now features two stages, video screens and a state-of-the-art sound system to attract local bands, artists and entertainers. “We have private party rooms, billiards tables, dart boards and arcade games, and we’re hosting events and fundraisers, car shows, art shows and great bands from around the country,” said Dave Anson. The restaurant offers an all-American cuisine including burgers, pizzas, tater tots, pizza dough bites, vegan chili, chicken and waffles. Happy Hour specials are offered throughout the week and all day Sunday. Located at 850 Tamarack Ave., the restaurant is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.

Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial Adds Vice President

Hill

Kellie Hill has joined Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial as vice president of project and development services and is working out of the firm’s University Towne Centre office. She oversees all project management and will be responsible for the tracking of entire projects from site selection to final closeout in the Southern California region. Hill has more than 13 years of experience in the construction, real estate and development industries, ranging from construction of retail stores and restaurants to tenant improvements for office construction. During her career, she has managed more than 500 construction projects in 45 states. Hill joins Cassidy Turley from Unisource Solutions Inc., a furniture and wall systems management company. She was the founder and principal of Advanced Construction Management, a national construction management firm specializing in retail, restaurant and office project management.

Construction Finished on Sunroad Automotive Group Building

Construction has been completed on the  remodeling of the Sunroad Automotive Group tenant building in Kearny Mesa. KMA Architecture & Engineering was retained by Sunroad Enterprises to design the remodeling project. Construction on the two-story building, located at 8265 Vickers St., involved the demolition and remodel of the second floor. The 7,776-square-foot tenant improvement was designed to incorporate the office’s open design with private offices, conference rooms, payroll offices and typical facilities and amenities.  Structural changes were made in three locations to accommodate high density file storage systems for the payroll group. B. Moon Hajjar, design director at KMA Architecture & Engineering, was involved in the project along with Rich Guerena and Jay Janda. Envision Engineering provided structural engineering services, Hughes Design Services provided electrical engineering, National Air & Energy provided mechanical engineering and LAB Drafting & Design provided plumbing engineering for the remodel.
