Bressi Ranch Village Center Sold

Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers LLC, a real estate investment adviser, has purchased the 111,403-square-foot Bressi Ranch Village Center in Carlsbad on behalf of one of its institutional clients. The price was not disclosed. The Village Center is part of the 525-acre Bressi Ranch development. It was built in 2009 and is 96 percent leased. Anchor tenants are Stater Bros., Trader Joes, Unleashed by Petco, Souplantation Express, Chase Bank and Rubios. Holliday Fenoglio Fowler (HFF) marketed the property on behalf of the seller, LNR Property LLC’s commercial property group. Ryan Gallagher, Tim Wright and Ryan Hertel represented HFF. Stewart Keith and Bill Thaxton of Flocke and Avoyer were the local market leasing representatives.

Landscape Architects Seek Grant Applications

The San Diego chapter of the American Landscape Architects is inviting local nonprofit organizations to apply for this year’s grant of up to $5,000 to design or construct landscape architectural improvements in locations such as parks, schools and neighborhoods. The 2012 Community Grant application is available on the chapter’s Website: asla-sandiego.org or by calling Tim Jachlewski at (619) 795-7603 or the chapter at (619) 225-8155. The application deadline is Aug. 1. Chapter president David Reed said the community grant has helped many community groups see their projects become reality, including community improvement workshops, project design and construction, purchase of landscape amenities and maintenance of on-going projects. Past recipients include the Euclid Avenue Revitalization Committee, Euclid Avenue Community Center Casa Familiar Casitas de las Forecitas, Sellsway Street Improvement Project, Azalea Park Neighborhood Association, La Jolla Town Council Federation, Scripps Park Project, Pt. Loma High School Foundation, Albert Einstein Academies; among others.

Marlene Moffitt Rejoins Allen Matkins Law Firm

Marlene Moffitt has returned to Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis as an associate in its San Diego office. Moffitt first came to the law firm in 2005 as an associate in the firm’s San Francisco office. In 2009, she accepted a position as law clerk for United States District Court Judge Roger Benitez for the Southern District of California, and decided to return to Allen Matkins this month. Moffitt represents employers in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration, on a broad range of employment issues. She represents employers in individual, multi-party and class action employment litigation. Prior to joining Allen Matkins in 2005, she was an associate at Kaye Scholer LLP. She received a bachelor’s degree from Revelle College at UCSD and her law degree from Loyola Law School. During law school, she worked as a law clerk in the legal department of Capital Research and Management Co.

Mike Abernathy Joins Lee & Associates

Mike Abernathy, an industrial real estate specialist, has joined Lee & Associates as principal of its San Diego-UTC office. Abernathy has more than 20 years of experience in landlord and tenant representation. He most recently was vice president of sales and leasing at Voit Real Estate Services in San Diego, where he spent 10 years. Before that he was with BRE Commercial, now Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial. Abernathy holds a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University.

Fleischer & Associates Adds Three New Associates

Three new associates have joined Fleischer & Associates, Attorneys at Law in its family law practice. Steven K. Brumer, founder of The Bruner Law Firm,  practices primarily in the areas of consumer bankruptcy, estate planning, probate, trust administration, and litigation of probate and trust matters. He formerly served as general counsel to various real estate and mortgage entities including Windsor Capital Mortgage Corp., the National Academy of Independent Brokers and Real Estate Consulting Group. Brumer graduated from the University of Miami School of Law. He earned earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. Jamie A. Steward practices immigration law. She will focus on family immigration, including individuals who want to come to the United States for work, school, or family reasons; and business immigration. Steward also represents individuals facing deportation or admission to the U.S. under the laws for refugees and asylum. Steward graduated from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and has been a member of the California State Bar and American Bar Association since 1995. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

First Foundation to Open San Diego Office

The First Foundation financial institution will open a new San Diego office and banking branch in the fourth quarter of this year at 4510 Executive Drive, Suite 150. The company also signed multiple lease agreements to increase its Irvine headquarters.

The Zombies Dance in Balboa Park

Visitors to Balboa Park Sunday afternoon were entertained by a flash mob musical performance celebrating Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video of 1983. Dressed as zombies, the dozens of dancers imitated the moves of the music video, with arms and legs akimbo. Although the dancers wore grotesque makeup, no one appeared frightened as the mob cavorted near the water fountain adjacent to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. The performande was organized by C-Star Productionz of San Diego. The flash mob also made two performances Saturday at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar.

Hot Flash Documentary

“Hot Flash Havoc,” and award-winning documentary that examines myths about menopause, will be aired Wednesday at the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre, 4126 Executive Drive, in La Jolla. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the screening begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. The documentary is winner of the 2011 visual awards from AASECT for best movie on sexual health. The screening is sponsored by and proceeds will support the San Diego nonprofit Institute for Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital. Well-Mannered Dogs (and People) Invited to Fur Ball

The 25th annual Fur Ball of the San Diego Humane Society will be staged Aug. 20 at its Gaines Street location in San Diego. The gala raises funds to support the organization’s programs and services for both animals and people in the San Diego region. This year’s  theme is  “Dancing with the Dogs.” The event will honor Petco and the Petco Foundation for longtime support of the San Diego Humane Society and animal welfare causes nationwide. Well-mannered, leashed dog(s) are also invited to join Fur Ball attendees. Dog butlers will be available to cater to doggie wishes. Individual tickets range in price from $175 to $500.
