Embarcadero Plan Update Set for Thursday
An update on the design of the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan will be presented Thursday at a meeting of the Joint Powers Authority on the plan. It will be held at 10 a.m. in the board room of the Port of San Diego Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego. Design concepts that will be presented for approval are the trees for North Harbor Drive and the lighting for West Broadway. The project, a collaboration between the Port of San Diego, Centre City Development Corp. and the city of San Diego, is to transform the waterfront of San Diego Bay from Laurel Street to the G Street Mole. It will improve the area by widening the pedestrian areas, adding landscaping, public art and gathering spaces. The first phase covers an area on Harbor Drive from Broadway Pier to the B Street Pier and a portion of West Broadway from the railroad tracks just past Pacific Highway to the intersection of Harbor Drive. The first phase is expected to break ground late this year. The California Coastal Commission approved the Coastal Development Permit for the first phase at its April 13 meeting in Santa Barbara.
Bay Club Marina to Show Off New Green Dock

The Bay Club Marina on Shelter Island will hold a grand opening event on Thursday to show off its new “green” dock that was constructed from recycled and recyclable materials. The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at The marina, 2131 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego. One hundred percent recyclable aluminum was used to build the dock structure and its deck system is made from post-consumer recycled polyethylene — a high-density product originating from milk jugs, plastic grocery bags, pallet wraps and detergent bottles. Another green feature is blue LED lighting. Signage on the dock is solar-powered. The Bay Club Marina was the first marina built on Shelter Island, opening in 1959. Its current owners, Frank Hope, Chuck Hope, Bob Collins and Ed Malone, will be attending the event. With 150 slips, the marina is part of the Bay Club Hotel and Marina, a long-time tenant of the Port of San Diego. It is participating in the Port’s Green Business Challenge that asks local businesses around San Diego Bay to green their operations over the course of a year.
Hans Ganz Retires from Pacific Trust Bank

Hans Ganz, who grew Pacific Trust Bank from a small thrift to a community banking operation with nine offices in two counties over the past 19 years as president and CEO, will retire on May 31. He will be replaced by Gregory Mitchell. Ganz will remain as an adviser through June 30. Rohr Federal Credit Union was the predecessor of the bank. Under Ganz, the bank converted from a mutual institution to a stock institution and the bank’s newly formed holding company, First PacTrust Bancorp, Inc., completed its initial public offering. In 2010, Ganz recruited new management and raised $60 million in a private placement. “With the capital raised this past November and the hiring of the new management team shortly thereafter, the bank is now poised to grow into new markets and bring our community-minded banking to more and more customers throughout Southern California,” said Ganz. First PacTrust Bancorp is the parent holding company of Pacific Trust Bank and is headquartered in Chula Vista. The bank currently operates through 10 banking offices serving primarily San Diego and Riverside counties.
SharePoint360 Names CEO
Kevin Harris
Kevin Harris has been named chief executive officer of SharePoint360. Harris was most recently chief information officer for Insurance Company of the West and will be responsible for strategic planning and operations of the company, which was founded in 2006 and serves national and global clients out of its offices in San Diego, Los Angeles and Cape Town, South Africa. Harris previously was president of Silicon Space, an e-business professional services firm. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UCSD and is a member of the boards of the San Diego Economic Development Corp. and Voices for Children.
Jay Powell to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
Jay Powell, executive director of the City Heights Community Development Corp., will be presented the San Diego Housing Federation’s Lifetime Achievement Award at a June 9 event at the McMillin Events Center at the NTC Promenade. It begins at 5 p.m. and special guest host is LeAnn Kim. Tickets are $50 for SDHF members and $70 for nonmembers if purchased prior to June 3. After that date, tickets are $85 available at the door. The event includes a reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, and the awards program. During Powell’s tenure, CHCDC acquired and rehabilitated 51 apartment communities with nearly 750 units. He was also at the helm as the CHCDC partnered in two new housing projects, Hollywood Palms and Metro Villas. Powell created the CHCDC trademark “Rebuild City Heights” program, a comprehensive program that created community and economic development by focusing on housing, jobs and quality neighborhoods. Prior to his appointment as executive director, Powell served as a special projects director at CHCDC. After beginning his career with the Navy, Powell worked in residential and experimental construction, then became the conservation coordinator of the San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club where he coordinated the1985 Managed Growth Initiative. He is a founding member of the Environmental Health Coalition.
Robert Moore Appointed General Manager of Resort
Wave Crest Hotels and Resorts and Hilton Hotels have appointed Robert Moore to general manager of the new Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa, now under construction in Carlsbad. Moore will oversee the opening and management of the new property scheduled to open in spring 2012 and continue to serve as general manager of sister property, Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach. Moore has worked for Hilton Hotels since 1983 and was the opening general manager for the Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad. He started his career in the hospitality industry as a dishwasher in 1979. He holds a degree from Robert Morris College, Pennsylvania.
PCL Construction Services Announces Staff Actions
Eric Gradyan has been appointed project manager of PCL Construction Services Inc. and Scott Bishop has been promoted to health, safety and environmental manager of the company. Gradyan has more than 20 years of construction experience. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Arizon State University. Bishop has five years of construction safety experience supervising large civil and commercial projects. He has a bachelor’s degree from Devry University.
Parking Structure Completed at Scripps Memorial Hospital

McCarthy Building Companies Inc. has completed construction of the new 884-space parking structure on the existing Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas campus at 354 Santa Fe Drive. Scripps Health is the developer of the $10,278,964 design-build parking structure, which replaced a surface parking lot. The project represents the first phase of a planned $200 million expansion of the Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas campus. Future expansion plans call for construction of a two-story, 60,000-square-foot critical care building that will house 27 emergency department beds on the first floor and 36 private acute care beds on the second floor. Farther-reaching plans include expansion for outpatient services, medical office space and additional critical care and inpatient beds to serve the community well into the future. The 278,000-square-foot parking structure has five levels of parking.
