Women Who Rock!

Development Ideas Sought for National City Harbor District

The Port of San Diego and the city of National City will hold public meetings on May 4, June 15 and Aug. 31 to identify development opportunities and other enhancement to part of the National City Harbor District and Port tidelands in National City. The May 4 meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the National City Railcar Plaza, 840 Bay Marina Drive. Attendees will be asked to contribute their ideas for desired land uses. The June 15 and Aug. 31 meetings also will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the National City Railcar Plaza. A design charrette to develop a preferred land use plan is on the agenda for the June 15 meeting and a review of the complete planning study document is on the agenda for the Aug. 31 meeting. A planning study is expected to go to the Board of Port Commissioners and the City Council of National City in early October. The Harbor District covers 108 acres west of Interstate 5 at Bay Marina Drive. It borders the Sweetwater Channel to the south, Bay Marina Drive to the north, Tidelands Avenue to the west and Interstate 5 to the east.

Former Chancellor Named to National Study Group

Augustine Gallego, chancellor emeritus for the San Diego Community College District, is one of three educators named by the American Association of Community Colleges to head a 12-month study on the future of community colleges in the United States. They will head the 21st-Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges that will examine issues facing the fastest growing sector of higher education. A 30-member working group will be part of the study, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. The other two educators chosen are Kay McClenney, director of the Center for Community College Student Engagement, and Jerry Sue Thornton, president of Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio. Gallego was chancellor of the San Diego Community College District from 1990 to 2004. He has served as chairman of both the American Association of Community Colleges and the American Council on Education. Commission findings will be presented during the association’s annual convention April 21-24, 2012, in Orlando, Fla.

The Muller Co. Adds Property Managers For San Diego County

The Muller Co., a real estate company based in Laguna Hills, has added Maya Hausmann as a property manager and Christina Kitchen as an assistant property manager in San Diego County as a result of its growth in the West. The company owns and/or manages nearly 608,000 square feet of office, retail and medical space in the county. Hausmann will serve as the property manager of Rio Vista Tower III in San Diego, Torrey Pines Court in La Jolla, and Beachwalk Retail Center in Solana Beach. She has more than 12 years of real estate experience and will be responsible for 334,000 square feet and 47 tenants between the three properties. Before joining The Muller Co., Hausmann was with Harsch Investment Properties in San Diego for six years as a property manager overseeing 600,000 square feet of industrial and office properties and 120 tenants. Kitchen will serve as assistant property manager to Hausmann and assist in the management of Rio Vista Tower III, Torrey Pines Court and Beachwalk Retail Center. Previously, Kitchen was a real estate associate for SENTRE Partners in San Diego, a real estate investment and services firm which represents large institutions to individual investors in Southern California and Mexico.

Dean Selected for SDSU College of Business Administration

Michael Cunningham, founder of Cunningham Graphics International, has been named dean of San Diego State University’s College of Business Administration. Cunningham has taught management courses at SDSU since 2005 and previously taught at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and New York University. He earned a Ph.D. and master’s degrees from New York University and a bachelor’s dgree from the University of Massachusetts. Cunningham will begin on June 20. Gail Naughon, the current dean, is leaving the university to focus on her work as CEO and chairman of the board of Histogen Inc., which she founded in 2007.

Torrey Pines Banks Adds Vice Presidents

Torrey Pines Bank has named Richard Yuen as the new senior vice president and relationship manager and Gilbert “Gil” Evans as the new vice president and business development officer at its Kearny Mesa office. Yuen has 35 years of experience in the banking industry, beginning as a teller at a bank in Boston. He later held executive positions at San Diego banks and credit unions. Yuen holds a master’s degree from Suffolk University, a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and a Graduate Commercial Lending Certificate from Oklahoma University. Evans has nearly 40 years of experience in business development and commercial and industrial loan underwriting from San Diego banks and leasing and financial institutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University.

‘Metrics and Analytics’ Topic of May 18 Talk

Steve McElfresh, CEOof HR Futures, will give a May 18 talk on “Metrics and Analytics: The Hidden Truth and its Value to HR,” at a meeting of the San Diego Society for Human Resource Management. North Park Community Association Elections

The North Park Community Association will host a pizza party and hold annual elections on Wednesday (April 27) at 6 p.m. at the North Park Lions Club, 3927 Utah St. in North Park. Several open seats will be filled for 2011-2013 on the association’s board of directors.

Office Market Forum Set for May 19

NAIOP San Diego, a chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, will hold a forum on the San Diego office market May 19 at 7:30 a.m. at the Marriott San Diego/Del Mar, 11966 El Camino Real, San Diego. Panelists will include John Turner, San Diego vice president for Irvine Co. Office Properties; Eric Northbrook, executive director of Cushman & Wakefield; Rob Merkin, senior vice president at CB Richard Ellis; and David Marino, principal and executive vice president of Irving Hughes.
