Thomas Jefferson Law Student Gets Lawyers Club Scholarship

Catrina Skor

Catrina Skor, a third-year law student at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, has become the first recipient of the Lawyers Club of San Diego Women and the Law Project scholarship ($2,000). She was honored at the Lawyers Club’s annual holiday luncheon at the Westin San Diego. Skor was one of three San Diego law students who received scholarships. She expressed gratitude to the club and, in particular, to the faculty and staff at Thomas Jefferson for fostering an environment that supports women in the legal profession.

Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL) established the scholarship in collaboration with Lawyers Club to recognize a TJSL student in the top 50 percent of his/her class who demonstrates support of the mission of Lawyers Club. Lawyers Club is a nonprofit specialty bar association seeking to advance the status of women in the law, to support and improve the administration of justice and to promote equality of men and women in society. Skor was selected as this year’s TJSL scholarship recipient by a committee of Lawyers Club members with final approval coming from the Lawyers Club board of directors. The scholarship is designated for tuition and books. (Thomas Jefferson School of Law photo.)

Museum to Formally Receive Smithsonian Honor Jan. 14

Harold Closter, director of Smithsonian Affiliations, will formally present the San Diego Museum of Man with its Certificate of Affiliation at a Jan. 14 ceremony in the museum’s Grand Rotunda. The Museum of Man is one of only two institutions in Balboa Park in association with the Smithsonian Institution. The other is the San Diego Air & Space Museum. “The San Diego Museum of Man is recognized as one of the premier  anthropology museums in America and has collaborated with the Smithsonian in many  ways over the years,” said Closter. “The Smithsonian’s involvement in establishing the initial  collections of the museum in 1915 now brings this relationship full circle.”

“Our goal at the Museum of Man is  to increase and diffuse knowledge, which perfectly aligns with what the Smithsonian has accomplished for more than 150 years,” said Micah Parzen, the museum executive director. “This is not only an exciting development  for the Museum of Man, but also for all of Balboa Park.”

Established in 1996, Smithsonian Affiliations is a national outreach program that develops collaborative partnerships with museums, educational and cultural organizations to share Smithsonian Institution resources with Americans in their own communities.
