Carl Josephson, 58, of Carlsbad has been appointed to the Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He has served as president of Josephson-Werdowatz and Associates since 1988. Schwarzenegger Blasted by City Attorney and DA

“Esteban Núñez — son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez — is a criminal who was sentenced by an experienced and well-respected Superior Court judge. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger reduced the sentence by over half to help his political crony’s son. In doing so, he undermined the judicial system and has jeopardized public safety. This homicide occurred in the city of San Diego. I speak for the overwhelming majority of San Diegans in stating that we are appalled and angry over Mr. Schwarzenegger’s conduct. It reflects poorly on him, personally, and on his legacy as governor.” — Jan Goldsmith, San Diego City Attorney, commenting on Schwarzenegger commuting the sentence of 22-year-old Esteban Núñez of Sacramento from 16 years to seven years in state prison in connection with his role in the stabbing death of a man in 2008.

San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis also condemned Schwarzenegger’s action. “We were shocked to hear of the governor’s last-minute commutation, which greatly diminishes justice for victim Luis Santos and re-victimizes his family and friends. The District Attorney’s Office was not consulted and the decision comes as the appeals process was continuing.”

Women’s Museum Changes Name, Plans to Move

The Women’s History Museum and Education Center has changed its name to The Women’s Museum of California and will move from Golden Hill to larger quarters in Liberty Station’s Promenade at NTC in Point Loma next year. “As one of only five women’s history museums in the country, we felt it was fitting to claim the right to be the Women’s Museum of California,” said Museum Director Ashley Gardner. “Our tag line, ‘preserving the past, inspiring the future,’ encompasses our long-term mission to educate current and future generations about the experiences and contributions of women.” The museum was launched in 1983. Gardner said increased activity, interest and donations made it necessary to move to a larger space. Last year the museum produced 40 events, took part in 41 community events and took its traveling exhibit to 12 schools, according to Gardner.
