Words To Live By In The New Year

“I will seek elegance rather than luxury, refinement rather than fashion. I will seek to be worthy more than respectable, wealthy and not rich. I will studyhard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly. I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.” — William Ellery Channing (1780-1842)

Commissioners Set Hearing on North Embarcadero Visionary Plan

The Board of Port Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Jan. 11 on whether to issue an appealable coastal development permit for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase 1 Coastal Access Features Project. The meeting is at 2 p.m. in the board room of the Port Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego. The project consists of four sub-phases: Phase 1A would include landscape and traffic improvements to West Broadway, from North Harbor Drive east to the railroad tracks. Phase 1B would realign North Harbor Drive from B Street Pier to Navy Pier, eastward of its present location and transition to existing alignments at Ash Street and F Street. The realigned road would enable construction of an approximately 105-foot wide Esplanade starting at the south edge of B Street Pier to the north edge of Navy Pier. The Esplanade would include a continuous bayfront promenade, storm water treatment system, a running/walking path, restrooms, kiosks, improved landscaping, and a public plaza at the foot of West Broadway. Phase 1C would include Broadway Pier design enhancements to create a cohesive waterfront plan connecting the Esplanade to Broadway Pier. Phase 1D would develop a public park/plaza within a 150-foot setback from the North Harbor Drive right-of-way on the Lane Field Development project site.
