Scripps Health Acquires North Coast Women’s Care

North Coast Women’s Care, a group of five health care practitioners specializing in obstetrics, gynecology and fertility medicine, will join Scripps Coastal Medical Group, the physician practice working within Scripps Coastal Medical Center, by Nov. 1. Scripps Health has acquired the assets of the North Coast Women’s Care, which has to locations — 332 Santa Fe Drive in Encinitas and 2067 W. Vista Way in Vista. The staff of 16 will be employed by Scripps Health.

The physicians and staff of North Coast Women’s Care have had a relationship with Scripps Coastal and Scripps Health for more than 20 years. Drs. Douglas Fenton, Ross Langley and Christine Brody, who specialize in obstetrics, gynecology and fertility, nurse practitioners Rumiko Harkness and Sandra Rodriguez, specializing in women’s health, and certified nurse midwife Erin Phillips will join the more than 100 Scripps Coastal physicians at 12 locations from Oceanside to Eastlake. The two new Scripps Coastal locations will continue to provide in-patient hospital care, including labor, delivery and surgical services at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

Envision Solar International Appoints President/COO

Desmond Wheatley, a consultant for Envision Solar International since last May, has been appointed president and chief operating officer for the company. Wheatley has two decades of senior international management experience in technology systems integration, energy management, communications and renewable energy. He is a founding partner in the international consulting practice Crichton Hill LLC. Prior to founding Crichton Hill, Wheatley was CEO of iAxis FZ LLC, a Dubai-based alternative energy and technology systems integration company. From 2000 to 2007 Wheatley held a variety of senior management positions at San Diego-based Kratos Defense and Security Solutions.

Press Club to Bestow Honorary Awards

S.D. Liddick (San Diego Magazine), Paul Kueuger (NBC 7/39), Lynne T. Friedmann (science writer) and J.W. August (KGTV/10) will each receive the San Diego Press Club’s special honorary awards on Oct. 19 at the 37th annual San Diego Press Club’s Journalism Awards at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Liddick earned the “Drew Silvern Award for Courage in Journalism,” given for work “courageously reported in a manner in which one’s personal or professional life is affected.” Kreuger will receive the  “Harold Keen Award for Outstanding Contributions in Journalism,” which is given to the journalist who has gone above and beyond standard practices for the sake of fairness and truth telling. Friedman is to get the “Andy Mace Award for Contributions in Public Relations” for c an extensive body of work in science writing. August will receive the “Jim Reiman Award for Enlightened Management”  for overseeing investigative features and special projects while managing the daily assignment desk at KGTV. Hitachi Exec to Address American Marketing Association

Tom Halle, vice president of alliances at Hitachi, is the guest speaker at an Oct. 21 luncheon of the San Diego chapter of the American Marketing Association. His topic: Partnering for Marketing Professionals: Practical Tips for Extraordinary Results.” The program will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton San Diego/ Del Mar, 15575 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar. Gubernatorial Appointment

Gov. Schwarzenegger has appointed Urban Miyares, 63, of San Diego, to the state Rehabilitation Council. Miyares has served as president of the Disabled Businesspersons Association since 1985. He is a board member of the Veterans Medical Research Foundation and Small Business Development Center Advisory Board, San Diego. Miyares also is a member of American Entrepreneurs for Economic Growth, Blind Veterans Association, Disabled American Veterans and San Diego Blind Recreation Center. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Miyares is a Republican.

Five Leases Signed at The Courtyard

Five leases totaling $2,045,826 have been signed at The Courtyard office building over the last four months. Located at 6480 Weathers Place in Sorrento Mesa, The Courtyard is a 50,268-square-foot, three-story office building that is now 90 percent leased. ACI Specialty Benefits Corp., a provider of employee assistance programs and work/life services, leased 12,765 square feet for 67 months. Software developer Moebius Solutions Inc. leased 2,757 square feet for 65 months. Resource Cos., a retail center developer, leased 1,725 square feet for 63 months. Ogecal Holding Inc. leased 1,291 square feet for 52 months. Psychologist Christy Bantugan-Bohan leased 900 square feet for 64 months.

San Diego Italian Film Festival Presents a Double Feature

The fourth annual San Diego Italian Film Festival on Oct. 24 will present a double feature combining live music by the Camarada ensemble in concert followed by the film “Enrico IV” directed by Marco Bellocchio at 7 p.m. at the Birth North Park Theatre. “Enrico IV” features an amazing performance by Marcello Mastroianni and a sublime score by the composer Astor Piazzolla.  Camarada will perform beautiful music from Piazzolla’s “Italian period.”  They will be accompanied by dancers from Tango Alma, bringing you all the passion of La Boca, original landing spot of Italian immigrants in Buenos Aires and the birthplace of this sensuous dance. Their performance will be followed by the screening of “Enrico IV” featuring the talents of two masters, Mastroianni and Bellocchio, dancing before you onscreen. Kenneth McMillen’s Music Ministry Celebrated

Community Congregational Church of Pacific Beach will hold an Oct. 24 celebration service in honor of Musical Director Kenneth McMillen’s 50th anniversary in Christian Music Ministry. It will be at 3 p.m. at 24, 2088 Beryl St. No charge. Former choir members directed by McMillen, a Normal Heights resident, from churches throughout the county, are invited to perform with the Pacific Beach choir.
