Eran Bermudez Heads La Raza Lawyers
Eran Bermudez, an attorney with Best Best & Krieger, has been elected president of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, succeeding her sister, Nadia Bermudez. Eran Bermudez has been an association member since 2007 and was most recently vice president of the board. She was responsible for organizing the association’s judiciary receptions with guest of honor California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno in 2008 and 2010 and for revamping the organization’s mentorship program. Bermudez is an associate in the school law practice group of Best Best & Krieger. She practices general school law with a focus on advising various school districts on personnel administration issues, labor and management issues, grievance and arbitration procedures and advising clients on the Ralph M. Brown Act, the Political Reform Act, and the Public Records Act. She will be sworn in during the association’s annual dinner in October.
BioMed Realty Trust Purchases Class A Office Building
BioMed Realty Trust has purchased the 49,347-square-foot Class A office building at 10240 Science Center Drive in San Diego for $17.75 million.
Located in the Torrey Pines submarket, the two-story building is 100 percent leased to eBioscience, a privately held company specializing in the production of reagents for scientific research and identifying diseases in the areas of immunology and oncology. The office building was built in 2002 on a 2.75-acre lot at Genesee Avenue and Science Center Drive. Louay Alsadek, Evan August, Ryan Egli and Matt Nickels of CB Richard Ellis represented both BioMed Realty Trust and the seller, Trammell Crow Co.
San Diego-based BioMed Realty Trust owns or has interests in 76 properties, representing 123 buildings with 11.2 million rentable square feet.
McNamara Named Partner at Coldwell Banker Commercial
Amy A. McNamara has been named senior vice president and partner of Coldwell Banker Commercial San Diego, a commercial real estate firm. McNamara specializes in the leasing and sales of high-rise, mid-rise and garden office/investment properties. An industry veteran, she has been instrumental in more than $300 million of successful leasing and sales transactions totaling more than three million square feet. This year, she has completed lease transactions totaling more than $20 million. McNamara previously was with Grubb & Ellis in Los Angeles, where she was named Top Office Broker every year from 1994-2009. Earlier in her career, she worked with Insignia/ESG Inc., Richmont Investment Property Services and Options Real Estate Investments, Inc. McNamara holds an AA degree from Mount San Antonio College. She is a member of the American Industrial Real Estate Association.
Liz Ramirez Receives Professional of the Year Award
Liz Ramirez, vice president of marketing for McMillin Communities, has received the Industry Professional of the Year award from the Building Industry Association in San Diego in its Icon Awards. McMillin Communities won the award for Best Designed Master-Planned Community for its Liberty Station in Point Loma. Todd Galarneau, McMillin’s senior project manager overseeing the Millenia community in Chula Vista, was named Best Project Manager. McMillin’s Vice President of Sales Patti Walker was a finalist for Marketing/Sales Professional of the Year and its new-home neighborhood of Jacaranda in Chula Vista was a finalist for Best Interior Design. Ramirez oversees the marketing activities of all McMillin master-planned communities and home-building projects as well as the branding for all company divisions.
Green Flash Brewing Leases Mira Mesa Building
Green Flash Brewing Co. has leased a 44,219-square-foot building at 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd. in San Diego for $5.7 million for 10 years. The lessor, San Diego 6550 Investments LLC, was represented by Ty and Scott Moffatt of Colliers International. Green Flash Brewing Co. was represented by Sam Higgins of CB Richard Ellis and Phil Palisoul of The Palisoul Co.
Author Featured at Women Business Owners Luncheon
Mimi Donaldson, author of “Necessary Roughness: New Rules for the Contact Sport of Life,” is the featured speaker at the Oct. 20 luncheon meeting of the National Association of Women Business Owners San Diego. The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton La Jolla, 3299 Holiday Court. Early bird pricing for members and guests is available through 5 p.m. on Oct. 14. World Trade Center San Diego Receives $425,000
World Trade Center San Diego has received the Market Cooperator Program award from the International Trade Administration (ITA) and will receive $425,000 over the next three years for work related to encouraging the use of U.S. technology to solve water issues in the Middle East, North Africa and India. It was one of five awards totaling $1.85 million from the ITA, a section of the U.S. Department of Commerce, in 2010. Belle Heule, president and CEO of World Trade Center San Diego, said the award will enable the organization to use workshops and trade missions to help countries and companies develop solutions to water management issues in each region. The organization will host individual counseling sessions, workshops and webinars by visiting ITA experts and will match U.S. companies with expertise in water technologies with interested countries. The aim is to stimulate growth and jobs in the U.S. and to build successful export relationships with countries in the area. “This award will connect U.S. manufacturers with potential buyers, which should help our country increase its overall market share in the global water technologies industry,” Heule said.
Jean Isaacs Dance Group Performs at the Mingei
Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater will be featured at the Oct. 8 “Early Evening @ Mingei” after-hours event at the Balboa Park museum. The program lasts from 6 to 9 p.m. Road & Rhodes will present the music of Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble accompanying the dance theater’s performance of “When Strangers Meet.” Guest also can visit the Mingei International Museum’s latest exhibition, “Zandra Rhodes — A Lifelong Love Affair with Textiles.” The event will include Nate Jarrell playing jazz guitar and will offer tastings from Café 21, beer from Karl Strauss Brewing Co., wine and champagne.
