Joe Craver is Mr. San Diego 2010

Joe Craver, CEO of the San Diego and Imperial Counties chapter of the American Red Cross, has been named Mr. San Diego 2010 by the Rotary Club of San Diego. The award cites Craver for his contributions to the community over the past several years. He joined the Red Cross in 2007 and is credited with rebuilding faith in the charity. Craver served in the Air Force for 26 years, retiring as a colonel. He earned more than 28 awards and decorations, including the Silver Star, Legion of Merit Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart. Locally, he has chaired the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Work Force Partnership, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and the Military Base Realignment and Closure Committee.

Robert Rauch Honored by Hotel and Lodging Institute

Robert A. Rauch, a veteran of the hospitality industry who began his career as a dishwasher, has been honored by the Certification Commission of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute for achieving 25 years as a certified hotel administrator. The president of R.A. Rauch & Associates, Rauch operates the Homewood Suites by Hilton and the Hilton Garden Inn San Diego/Del Mar as well as the Quality Inn & Suites Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. m“Robert A. Rauch is truly an extraordinary example to those who strive for excellence in the hospitality industry,” said Barbara Blankenship, the institute’s senior director of professional certification. Rauch has served as chairman of several tourism organizations nationally and in the western U.S., and currently serves on the board of the San Diego Tourism Marketing District. He has been involved in developing several hotels including the Del Mar Marriott, Hilton Hotel Gaslamp Plaza, Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad, Hilton Hotel Santa Clara and several more. Rauch has been teaching a class on Hospitality Entrepreneurship at San Diego State University for the past eight years.

Bank of Internet Appoints Executives

Tom Constantine has been named executive vice president, chief credit officer and chief regulatory affairs office for Bank of Internet USA and Adriaan van Zyl has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer for the bank. Constantine replaces former chief credit officer Gary Evans, who became CEO of Palm Desert National Bank. Before joining Bank of Internet, Constantine was a senior examiner with the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), serving his second stint with the agency. He first joined the OTS in 1989, during the savings and loan crisis, and has over 23 years of experience in the banking and financial services industries. Van Zyl has corporate, commercial and investment banking experience. He started his career in 1982 at Barclays Bank as part of its executive development program. His subsequent experience includes serving as chief credit officer, chief financial officer, president and CEO for various banks and divisions. Most recently, he was president and CEO, respectively, at two industrial banks.

SDG&E’s Solar Power Initiative Approved

San Diego Gas & Electric Co. has received approval from the state Public Utilities Commission for a solar power initiative that provides for 100 megawatts of photovoltaic solar energy. Under the initiative, 26 megawatts of utility-owned generation would be scheduled for construcgtion on existing SDG&E property. The remaining 74 megawatts would be purchased from independent power producers. Utility officials said the initiative could more than double the 80 megawatts of solar power currently generated in the utility’s service territory. In addition to developing its own local solar projects, SDG&E will solicit power purchase agreements for solar power at other sites in the region.A megawatt is enough power to serve about 650 homes.
