Security Business Bank has hired Michael Peters as executive vice president and Christopher Burt as senior vice president as part of the bank’s North County inland growth strategy. Peters and Burt are founders of Bank of Escondido and have more than 60 years of combined community banking experience. “With their management experience and Escondido-specific banking knowledge, we look forward to opening an office in Escondido in the near future to serve the I-15 corridor, ” said Paul Rodeno, president and CEO. Peters, who served most recently as president and CEO of Bank of Escondido, is a previous president of the Downtown Business Association of Escondido. Goodwin Procter Adds 2 Partners in San Diego
David E. Kleinfeld and Kurt M. Kjelland have joined the Goodwin Procter law firm as partners in its San Diego office. They are members of the firm’s intellectual property practice. They were previously with Foley & Lardner. Kleinfeldrepresents corporations in litigation involving intellectual property, unfair competition and business and commercial disputes. Prior to joining Foley & Lardner in 2008, he was a partner with Heller Ehrman LLP. Kleinfeld earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law Kjelland is a registered patent attorney who counsels companies on litigating high-stakes patent and trade secret cases in the life sciences and electronics fields. Prior to joining Foley & Lardner, he was a partner at Heller Ehrman LLP and previously was a chemical engineer for the Dow Chemical Co. Kjelland earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School.

Café Sevilla to Relocate to Another Downtown Space

Café Sevilla has signed a 10-year, $3.4 million lease for 7,961 square feet of retail space in the newly constructed Marriott Residence Inn San Diego at 356 Sixth Ave. in Downtown San Diego. It will move from its current Downtown location in January. Residence Inn is a 240-guestroom hotel
that is close to Petco Park, the San Diego Convention Center and the San Diego Repertory Theater. Both Café Sevilla and the landlord, J5TH, LLC, were represented by Bill Shrader and Corinna Gattasso of the Cushman & Wakefield Urban Property Group.
Westcore Affiliate Purchases Switzerland Building
Westcore Europe, an affiliate of San Diego-based Westcore Properties, announced the sale of Coca Cola Logistics, a 77,220-square-foot industrial building in Bussigny-Pres-Lausanne, Switzerland, to Procimmo Swiss Commercial Fund, a public real estate investment fund, for $12 million. Westcorp is continuing to acquire office buildings throughout Western Europe and the U.K., according to Olivier Hezelot, asset manager with Westcore Europe.
Grant Awarded for Technology Commercialization
UCSD’s William J. von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement and Rady School of Management have received a $1.05 million grant from the Department of Energy to support the development of university-based technology commercialization. UCSD will partner with San Diego State University to hold an annual Regional Energy Innovation Challenge and establish an expert advisory board to develop criteria and solicit applications. Winning teams will showcase their technologies and commercialization plans to potential sources of capital.
Frontier Airlines to Add S.D.Nonstop Flights to Omaha
Frontier Airlines will add new nonstop flights between San Diego and Omaha starting Jan. 16, 2011. The flights will be three times a week aboard Embraer 190 (E190) aircraft and will feature in-flight Wi-Fi service, all-leather seating in a two-by-two configuration, and four rows of “STRETCH” seating, which provides an extra five inches of legroom.
County Water Authority Board Elects New Officers
Michael T. Hogan, retired general manager of Encina Wastewater Authority and Santa Fe Irrigation District representative, will chair the San Diego County Water Authority’s board of directors for the next two years. Thomas V. Wornham, executive vice president and regional manager for the San Diego commercial banking group of Wells Fargo Bank and a representative of the city of San Diego, will serve as vice chair. Richard K. Smith, a retired geotechnical consultant and a representative of the Helix Water District, will serve as secretary. Their two-year terms begin Oct. 1, 2010. Hogan joined the Water Authority board in 2006. He currently serves as vice chair of the administrative and finance committee. Wornham was appointed to the Water Authority board in 2006 and currently serves as secretary of the board. He also serves on the administrative and finance and the engineering and operations committees. Smith began his term on the board in 2007. He currently serves as vice chair of the engineering and operations committee and as a member of the administration and finance committee.
City Heights’ Azalea Park to Get Makeover
More than 300 Cricket Communications employees will join with local business partners, community organizations and professional volunteers on Oct. 2 to undertake a major renovation of Azalea Park in City Heights. Cricket and Rebuilding Together will install a water conservation garden with drought-resistant plants on the park premises. The two organizations also plan to upgrade overall conditions for the appearance and sustainability of the park. A group of experts and community members are involved in the project including Cricket as the platinum sponsor; Rebuilding Together, which is managing the whole project; Estrada Land Planning, designer of the garden; student landscape designers Kerry McDonald and David Clarke, who created the plant planning documents; Rain Bird, who donated all of the irrigation materials; and Landscape Solutions and Outside Matters, who will install the irrigation and hardscape. Numerous other community partners have offered their support in the venture, including the city of San Diego Park and Recreation Department and Councilman Todd Gloria. The work lasts from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
