La Costa Resort and Spa Sold
KSL Capital Partners has acquired La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad from an investment group that had purchased the property in 2007. Financing was not disclosed. The new owner intends to make substantial improvements, including upgrades to the guest rooms, spa, restaurants, pools, meeting space and golf courses, according to Bernie Siegel, KSL principal. KSL Resorts, which has managed La Costa since 2001, will continue to operate it. The resort has 474 guest rooms and suites and 136 one-, two- and three-bedroom villas. It has two golf courses and a tennis facility. Later this month, La Costa will host an LPGA tournament, the KIA Classic, and in August it will host a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tennis tournament, the Southern California Open.
Bachelor Quarters Completed at Camp Pendleton
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly completed wounded warrior bachelor quarters will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday behind the Wounded Warrior Battalion West headquarters near Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. The $24.56 million barracks project is the first in a series of three construction projects totaling $54 million that will complete the Wounded Warrior Battalion West campus. The barracks, at the heart of the campus, includes 100 two-person rooms designed to accommodate wounded, injured and ill Marines and sailors. Future projects for the campus include a resource and recovery center, a new headquarters facility, an outdoor amphitheater, therapeutic gardens and nature trails throughout the campus landscape. The facility is a LEED Gold certifiable project and was designed by Cass, Sowatsky, Chapman & Associates of San Diego. Construction was managed by Barnhart Balfour Beatty based in San Diego.

Security Business Bank Hires Real Estate Lender
Security Business Bank has hired C.W. Southwick as senior vice president of real estate lending. Southwick hass more than 35 years of business banking experience. She spent seven years at 1st Pacific Bank of California supervising the real estate lending department. She also worked at First International Bank, Peninsula Bank, Grossmont Bank and several other local as well as out-of-state financial organizations throughout her career. Southwick received a bachelor’s degree in real estate from San Diego State.
Sustainability Seminar to be Staged April 7 in Balboa Park
The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership’s Sustainability Seminar will be held April 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Hattox Hall at The Old Globe in Balboa Park. Two workshops will be offered. The first will explore the most time-efficient and cost-effective approaches to identifying energy-saving measures for buildings; how San Diego Gas & Electric’s rebate and incentive programs can reduce up-front costs and may improve a project’s return on investment; and, how properly evaluating the costs and benefits of proposed upgrades can help get the projects approved. The second workshop will address the pros and cons of various Energy Star benchmarking techniques, tips for optimizing Energy Star scores and best practices for improving the score over time. Activewear Garments to Move to Chula Vista
Activewear Garments Inc. has signed a five-year, $187,615 lease for 4,508 square feet of industrial space in Southrail Business Park at 664 Marsat Court in Chula Vista. With the transaction, the 128,000-square-foot industrial park is 93 percent leased. Activewear, a contract sewing company that produces sportswear clothing and accessories with a specialization in four-way stretch fabrics, will relocate from its current location in National City to the new Chula Vista facility in April. Nick Price and Michael Mossmer of Voit Commercial represented both the lessee and the lessor, Westcore Properties. Other tenants at the site include LGB Inc., Delphinus Engineering and Sammy’s Kitchen & Bath.
Beauty Kliniek Signs $1.1 Million Lease
Lindav U.S.A. Inc., dba Beauty Kliniek, a beauty and hair salon, day spa and wellness center, has signed an 84-month, $1,120,261 lease renewal for 6,616 square feet of retail space in Marketplace in University City at 3264 Governor Drive. The lessee represented itself. The lessor, UC Marketplace Partnership, was represented by Rob Ippolito and Kam Walton of Cushman & Wakefield.
Film Festival Stages Screenwriting, Filmmaking Workshop
The San Diego Christian Film Festival will hold a two-day screenwriting and filmmaking workshop April 24-25 at Point Loma Nazarene University. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Instructors will be Richard Krevolin and Alan Hueth, who have five decades of experience between them. The workshop is designed to explore story structure, character development and other necessary elements to visual storytelling. Early-bird cost for two days is $245 until April 4. Alexander Salazar Fine Art Gallery opens
Alexander Salazar, a Harvard graduate and La Jolla art dealer, will open the Alexander Salazar Fine Art studio March 26 and 27 at 640 Broadway (at Seventh Avenue). The gallery will feature the works of emerging artists and well renowned painters and sculptors from the United States and abroad. Salazar holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a second master’s degree from Boston College. Salazar said 15 percent of all sales on the two nights will be a benefit the “It’s All About The Kids.”
