SAIC Acquires Cybersecurity Company

Science Applications International Corp. has signed an agreement to acquire CloudShield Technologies Inc., a cybersecurity company headquartered in Sunnyvale. SAIC officials said the acquisition will enhance SAIC’s cybersecurity offering, and help the company bring to market products for high-speed networks, enabling it to meet emerging customer requirements in U.S. federal government and commercial markets. CloudShield will join SAIC’s Intelligence and Information Solutions Business Unit, part of SAIC’s Intelligence, Security and Technology Group led by Stu Shea.

“We are pleased to welcome CloudShield to SAIC and our cyber team,” said Shea. “This acquisition is an integral component of our enterprise cyber strategy and provides us with technology to help build a solid foundation for the development of solution-focused applications.” The acquisition is expected to close by mid-February.

USD Adds New Business Development Course

USD’s new Institute for Sales and Business Development has added a second course that will begin Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Manchester Conference Center. The first course in January was filled almost immediately, said Jodi Waterhouse, director of USD’s Office of Corporate & Professional Education. “Clearly there’s a great need among small to medium-sized businesses for this kind of high-quality sales training so we have added another  course,” said Waterhouse. Early bird registration for the second course is $275. After Jan. 25, the cost will be $299. The Institute for Sales and Business Development is the first university-based program of its kind on the West Coast.

“The program is especially relevant to new entrepreneurs — lawyers, accountants and other professionals — who have expertise in their field but may not have the sales and other skills needed to operate their business successfully,” said Waterhouse.
