SCS Engineers Get $162,000

SCS Engineers has been awarded a $162,000 contract by the Chula Vista Redevelopment Agency to perform a community-wide brownfields assessment of the city’s Southwest Redevelopment Project Area. The project is funded by two Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Program grants totaling $400,000.  SCS is responsible for completing an area-wide inventory, incorporating the inventory into a Geographic Information System (GIS), identifying site selection criteria for Phase I environmental site assessments, and completing the Phase I assessments for selected sites. “The community-wide brownfield assessment will provide valuable information to transform the Southwest Redevelopment Project Area into a vibrant, safe, healthy and sustainable community,” said Daniel E. Johnson, SCS vice president and San Diego operations manager. Johnson is project principal from SCS Engineers; Nicki Field is project manager.

Ladies Who Launch To Sponsor Four Workshops

Ladies Who Launch will sponsor four incubator workshops to help women intending to launch new businesses. The sessions will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 9, 16 and 30 and Dec. 7 at the Crimson Boutique, 2670 Via De La Valle, in Del Mar. Ladies Who Launch workshops are designed to align participants’ focus and energy, and to make the process of launching a business, project, or new life direction as easy and enjoyable as possible, the organization said. Women’s Global Network to Hear Tanzania Presentation

Three of the six members of the Women’s Global Network who traveled to the underdeveloped town of Bukoba, Tanzania, last July to help women start their own businesses will share their story at a Nov. 17 program sponsored by WGN. The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the When in Rome Restaurant, 1108 South Coast Highway, in Encinitas. The event is open to both WGN members and nonmembers. Cost to attend is $49. Joanna Herr, Claire Donahue and Denise Ross will recall their adventures and share the stories of the women they met whose lives have been changed thanks to the financial contributions and encouragement of the WGN’s efforts. The Women’s Global Network, San Diego is an organization that brings together talented women at all phases of their careers to assist each other in achieving professional success and who, through its Global Business Partners program, helps support the economic development and social empowerment of women’s cooperatives in Africa by using member donations to invest in microfinancing programs that make small loans to women-owned businesses in underdeveloped countries.

Women’s Foundation Seeks Grant Proposals

The San Diego Women’s Foundation is accepting proposals for funding in the field of the environment. “The goal of the environment grants is to fund programs that involve people in activities connected to local nature that promote informed awareness of and personal responsibility for the natural environment of the San Diego region,” said Rita Solberg, grants chair. “The specific target area was developed after the team’s year-long study of priorities within the San Diego region.” All grant applications must be submitted electronically no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 2. Last year the SDWF awarded $201,000 to four new community partners whose work addressed the 2009 focus area of economic and employment development in the San Diego region by supporting programs which help  lower paid, lower skilled workers prepare for and move into higher skilled jobs with the intent of strengthening the middle class in the San Diego region. Federal Contract Awards

• Separation Processes Inc. in Carlsbad won a federal contract valued at up to $5,000 from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation in Boulder City, Nev., for technical support.

• Swierk Excavation in Jamul won a $48,575 federal contract from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Maintenance and Logistics Command in Oakland for piping repairs. Place of performance will be in Kodiak, Calif.

California Community Bank Promotes Sue Snow

Escondido-based California Community Bank has promoted Sue Snow to senior vice president. Snow has more than 25 years of banking experience in the Escondido and North County markets. She started her career with Escondido National Bank, then went to North County Bank and, in 2000, joined First National Bank/Pacific Western Bank as a vice president in the Escondido office. Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza Holds Thanksgiving Food Drive

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza restaurants have teamed with the HAND UP Youth Food Pantry, a program of Jewish Family Services of San Diego, for a Thanksgiving food drive to help feed San Diego’s hungry. The food drive will take place Nov. 18-23 at all Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza locations in San Diego. San Diegans are encouraged to drop by any of Sammy’s locations between these dates to donate non-perishable, canned-food items.All customers who donate a food item at one of the 10 Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza locations will receive a coupon good for one free signature giant Messy Sundae dessert, redeemable upon receipt or saved for future use. Sammy’s locations include La Jolla, Del Mar, Downtown/Gaslamp, Carlsbad, Mission Valley, La Mesa, Scripps Ranch, Point Loma, San Marcos and UTC/Costa Verde.
