Renowned painter to appear at Mission Trails Gallery

The Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation will present a demonstration and discussion by nationally  renowned mouth painter Lynda Hamilton on Oct. 24. The demonstration will be held from 11 a.m. to  2 p.m. in the Mission Trails Gallery located in the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor and Interpretive Center, One Father Junipero Serra Trail, San Diego. Born in 1950, Hamilton contracted polio when she  was 10, losing the use of both arms. When she  was still a child, she taught herself to draw with a pencil held in her mouth, and has since developed her own unique techniques for painting. After completing high school and college, Hamilton moved to San Diego and began volunteering at local schools. She and fellow MFPA member, Robert Thome, founded the Artability Artist Association, a San Diego-based group of disabled artists who teach at the San Diego Rehabilitation Center. Hamilton uses a specially designed foot-steered car, which she uses to perform day-to-day activities, as well as to get around to shows and exhibitions. The freedom that the car provides allows Lynda to assist other artists in presenting their work to the public.

For more information about Hamilton’s demonstration and discussion, contact Shandel Gamer, art coordinator, at: (619) 562-5791 or Roland Roberge, MTRP Foundation, at: (619) 668-3280.
