How To Publish A Fictitious Business
Name Statement And Other Legal Notices

The San Diego Metropolitan Uptown San Diego Examiner — we call it Uptown at the office — provides the professional, reliable, timely service you need and expect when placing legal notices. And it saves you money too — only $12 for a Fictitious Business Name Statement published once a week for four weeks. That price includes proof of publication filed with the County Recorder and a copy mailed to you.

If you want us to handle everything, including the initial filing, we can do that too, for $50 per statement (additional names on the same statement are $5 each), which even includes the county’s filing fees.

The San Diego Metropolitan Uptown Examiner is adjudicated as a newspaper of general circulation to publish all legal notices for both the City and County of San Diego.

While Fictitious Business Names are the most common legal notice, we also publish:

  • Fictitious Business Names
  • Abandonments
  • Withdrawals
  • Summonses
  • Citations
  • Orders to Show Cause (Name Changes)
  • Notices of Default
  • Probate Notices
  • Notices of Sale of Real Property
  • Dissolutions of Partnership
  • Bulk Sales
  • Notices of Annual Report

The San Diego Metropolitan Uptown Examiner publishes twice a week, every Wednesday and Friday. That frequency could be valuable to you when other newspapers’ deadlines force you to publish your notices in one of the high-priced dailies. Our prices are reasonable.

How To Use Us

To fulfill the required publication of your Fictitious Business Name Statement already registered by you with the County Recorder, all we need is one white copy of your statement if it was filed on-line or the blue copy (stamped “NEWSPAPER” in red on the bottom right corner) if filed on the county’s multi-part form.

We can only publish Fictitious Business Name Statements that have been filed, stamped and certified by the County Recorder within the last 30 days. We cannot publish statements we receive 30 days after the initial filing.

You can mail your statement to us for publishing at P.O. Box 4368, San Diego, CA 92164 with a check or money order for $12 for up to four names on one form (additional names on one form are $2 each).

You can also fax your statement to us (please use the yellow copy for faxing) at (619) 233-4272 if you choose to pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express. The credit card fax price is $15. In your fax submission, include on a separate sheet of paper your credit card number, date of expiration, name of the signer on the card and a brief note authorizing the Metropolitan Uptown Examiner to charge the card $15 for each Fictitious Name Statement being published. You must sign the note and include a telephone number where you can be reached.

We also offer our full filing service for Fictitious Business Names: filing the initial statement with the County Recorder for you, as well as fulfilling the required publication of the statement and filing proof of publication with the County Recorder. The flat fee is $50, which includes the initial filing of one Fictitious Business Name (additional names on the same statement are $5 each).

Please call us at (619) 398-8927 for a Fictitious Business Name statement form to be mailed to you. (Note that although multiple fictitious names may be listed on one statement, only one business address is allowed per statement. Two or more separate business addresses must be on two or more statements.)

After filling in the form, do not detach your copies; they will be certified and mailed back to you as soon as they have been filed with the County Recorder. Two copies will be mailed back to you for your records and use. We retain one copy for publication of your statement in the San Diego Metropolitan Uptown San Diego Examiner. Upon completion of the required four-week publication schedule, we file proof of publication with the County Recorder for you and mail you a copy of what was filed.
