![]() Jonathan Segal wants to return home to Downtown in this new Little Italy project. |
In the urban circle of life, Jonathan and Wendy Segal made a home for their young family in the Seven On Kettner project Jonathan designed and built, then moved to La Jolla as the two children became school age. But with college now the deal, and a son about to graduate from USC and work with dad, the couple is coming back. This time Jonathan is looking to build in Little Italy a mixed-use project called The Q on Fir between India and Kettner. The four-to-six story development features 12,648 square feet of retail space and 37,153 square feet of office. The top will become the family home. One glitch: The property is home to the historic A.W. Pray Rental House, a 1,032-square-foot structure successive property owners have been trying to relocate for 15 years. CCDC also wants Segal to relocate the Pray. He laments that past redevelopment officials failed when land was cheap to lock-up property for historic homes. The Planning Commission weighs in this month.

I admire the projects Johnathan Segal does, efficient and beautiful additions to the fabric of downtown San Diego. I hear the Q will be a sustaiinable building and even include a solar turbine for energy generation. Can you tell me more about that energy generating system? Thank you
